A college campus has its own security force or contracts it out to local law enforcement and they dont care that you are a mall cop working security for some yotube celebrity.

Not only would it have prevented the shooter from being on the roof, since the drone pilot then would have notified security, but it also could have tracked him and his whereabouts after the fact from the air like a chopper does in a car chase.

The problem with just drones is that they cover the rooftops well, but you then have to secure every building that has a window facing Kirk. You could have metal detectors in each entrance but there's ways around that.
It actually takes a lot of resources to fully lock down all angles from a sniper.

This is a serious discussion to have so no one else gets hurt or killed.
The security was a fucking JOKE. After Butler the first thing on event securities mind should be "Are there any buildings where a sniper can lay flat and get a clean shot".

What security does (and what the Secret Service does) is have someone on alert to watch the windows. If one goes up, you radio security to get Kirk out of there.

I work at a similar sized university, all doors are always open until 10pm for the main buildings, and once inside the campus corridors or tunnels connect everything. For the most part cameras are only at entrances, some stairwells and elevators.

Card access or key fob is only needed for research and lab buildings and admin/HR and the steam plant/cooling towers. The rest is wide open on most campuses.

One thing we have lock down are the rooftops. When VIPs are here on speaking tours with protesters we bring in counter snipers from the swat team to cover all rooftops. The police treat it as training and they cover areas the normal campus security cant. We did this for palestine/anti israel protests, or when al gore visited etc. If there are any legit threats of violence typically the whole event is called off and they stream it online.

Yea but Kirk doesn't have Secret service type money. He has private security and security that's maybe provided from the University. That's going to cost you a pretty penny especially if you do that every other day where you are traveling from one venue to another.
The Government can do it since it's your money.

I don't think that's true, but you don't need secret service type money. He clearly had security around him. Have 1 of them be on window guard with binoculars. Have 1 be on each rooftop. You have to at least try.
