Canada will Become an Amazing Country under Carney's Leadership
I'm a Conservative but I'm embracing Mark Carney and his use of industrial policy to make Canada great again. I'm typically for free markets but the legislative nature of Canada is making the free market solution politically impossible (NIMBYs totally control the zoning laws) and the Federal Government is powerless to make them deregulate, however, the Federal Government can build a "Federal Building" wherever they'd like, bypassing zoning laws, Carney will use this loophole to construct new residential units. This is a direct copy of the Scandinavian, particularly Danish and Swedish model of public housing. It also takes from Austria and Britain too. Mamdani is looking at a similar idea.
>Deficit spend tens or hundreds of billions of dollars to build new residential units. The biggest cost to building in Canada right now is regulatory costs (that will be bypassed), so the government will be earning massive profits on these. An apartment that costs $2m to construct will have a market value of $5m due to Canada's insane housing laws.
>As the government builds more, rent prices and housing prices will be pulled down, as the market will be flooded with more supply
>The Federal Government will own these units and rent them out for profit, the profit will be used to supplement a middle class and working class tax cut
>Interest on the additional debt will be paid via a tax on corporate advertisement and a luxury goods tax that targets the wealthy
>Stimulate the economy by creating tens of thousands of new jobs in construction, lumber, transportation, and logistics, giving young Canadians work experience that they can then use to further their careers
>NEETbux are cut, all Canadians on welfare will have a choice to join the housing works program or face poverty....
