Afghanistan was because the Taliban tried to ban poppy farming, which would put a huge dent in the global heroin trade, which the CIA has to control to drum up untraceable funds for their black projects.
Iraq was partly because Israel thought Saddam was a potential threat, partly personal revenge for Bush (Saddam tried to assassinate his dad). It had fuck all to do with oil, we already have plenty of it plus plenty of allies with it.
Notice the common thread of powers we used to directly support becoming "enemies" when they're no longer useful.

I used to think it was oil, but you don't hear much about Iraqi oil anymore. They invaded iraq to recreate Desert Storm for a quick W and restore America's strong image after 9/11.
