I would love for some fellow basement investigators to focus on the shot with me here. Look at the frame-by-frame, and I want to point out the big issues I see:
1 - His shirt is pulled up so fast and so sharply that there is no way a passing round could have done that without hitting the shirt, which does give credence to the vest claim, but the odds of a .30-06 round hitting a soft plate and deflecting at that angle seem very unlikely
2 - Look at the pictures immediately after the shirt drops and you can see the entrance wound. What is the weird gray shit on the shirt collar? I have seen a bullet hole here also, but it's harder to make out in these shots.

There is no vest. I think what you are seeing is that the bullet went in the back of his neck just below the shirt collar and snapped the shirt up in the front fast enough to catch the bullet exiting the front of his neck.

The biggest problem is the discrepancy between the bullet wound position in his neck and the position of his shirt. If it were fired directly from the front or back, it would never touch his shirt and just pass over it. The shockwave from the bullet force and velocity would push it AWAY, like you see his hair and skin puff back and away. It wouldn't jerk one small part of it straight up into the path of the bullet, actually in front of the path. That makes zero sense at all with physics and the only explanation left is that the bullet did hit his vest and turn up directly into his neck, taking the shirt with it for a second.
