The ricochete theory is all but confirmed as there was no exit wound. The hole in his neck was too small to be an exit wound and too big to be an entry wound from a direct hit. Had to be a flattened piece of shrapnel that ripped a hole like that. So if he'd been hit in the chest could he have lived? How ironic that the body armor actually DIRECTED the bullet into a more vital area and might have actually killed him.

I think his plate needed a robust few layers of rhino liner or a kevlar pad over it to catch fragmentation.

A plateless chest shot would have been even more brutal, as it would definitely have an exit wound blowing out the back. A direct hit with a hunting caliber to the lung/heart area is game over no matter what. I suppose the spalling/ricochet is worse because of the jugular leaking visual, but better because insta-kill hit to brain. Either way I'm still pissed off, and someone will have to pay for this.

Neck hit was probably the best outcome for a 30-06 if the hit were to land. Shock from the impact would knockout immediately, bleed out in the interim. Getting shot anywhere on the body means you die slow. Getting shot in the head risks shooting low and to the side, just blowing a piece of your face off and still dying slow or surviving as a permanent freak.
