Even if it has happened to a single person, I don't know if that means it's pattern of behavior.

I've heard it a few times that people have been put on the sex offender list for peeing in public, but I'm skeptical of it. It might be an urban myth, I've never been able to find any confirmation of someone being put on the sex offender list for this (or something like streaking).

I'm not really asking for second hand stories or what you heard from a friend. I'm looking for stuff like news article, actual court cases, or legal papers.

I got cited for peeing outside once. It was in the middle of the fucking woods. The charge was "indecent exposure". What pussed me off is that when I walked out of the woods there were several totally naked women and men just running around and no cops in sight.

My mom's an old hippy fantasy artist facepainter, wouldn't hurt a fly. She really had to go so pulled her van over and went on the side of the road, no one could see since she was on the passenger side. My mom said- "Well, I wasn't dumping." she's one of those naturally funny types, judge cracked up and dismissed it. But yeah, they can consider it a sex offense. If you're clearly purposely exposing yourself, especially to kids, they can require you to register. If you were clearly trying to hide and got seen anyway there's some discretion to not have you register. Usually courts are pretty reasonable about the specifics of the incident, but we do live in a stupid common law country where a judge has the final say and can do whatever the fuck their emotions please or their hidden political agenda. But laymen think that's always happening when it's sort of rare, and the laws are not the same in all 50 states. I don't think most states even consider public urination for required sex offender registry. It has to be knowing indecent exposure or whatever that state calls purposely exposing your genitals, anus, or female areola.

i almost was. i pled not guilty and had the case set for trial. only then did they let me plea down to a noise ordinance violation to keep me from having to register. they were 100% going to make me a sex offender if i didnt set it for trial

If it did actually happen and it's actually stated on the court documents, it's probably because it was near a school or playground during active hours.
There's no way you're put there for taking a piss along the road in the middle of nowhere at 2am on a Wednesday..

It's like being busted for "having weed on you." Cops use it as an excuse to get you for a real crime that they were only allowed to look into and find out because of the initial one. No one actually gets booked for just doing that and only that.
