Have you thought about how expensive laptops will become once the tariffs hit?
People will scramble for older more repairable ones. Same with cars, most of the electronic parts of modern cars are made in China.

Trash economy will rule for a while.

I paid $50 or a cherry unused-looking T42p a few years ago. Now they are a couple hundred bucks. Also ditto for the older Thinkpads of the higher end models, which have real built-in Sound Blasters. 3xx and 5xx series.

I want a T22 because it's the last official Thinkpad to include a real Sound Blaster. It also works with the docking station that can accept up to 2 PCI expansion cards. Which I have. But no T22, I want a nice one and cheap and haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I've been looking at new laptops and prices are through the roof. Basic entry-level machines are double what they should be and then the entire pricing scale continues from that new bottom. If I wanna get a new Thinkpad that's decent I gotta spend $1,200-1,500.

>Have you thought about how expensive laptops will become once the tariffs hit?
Yes, that is why I've invested in airlines. See, when the laptop tarriff goes to 300%, it's gonna be cheaper to just buy a plane ticket, go buy one in Asia, and bring it home with you. Airfare plus laptop will cost less than laptop, and you will get to be a sexpat for a week.
Airline stocks are currently in the dumpster thanks to Boeings exploding every three days. But that's not gonna stop you when you NEED that laptop for work and play, is it?

Of course BRICS nations will see a flood of Chinese stuff. But you don't want some gay Chinese laptop. You want a nice old Thinkpad, trust me.

I work for one of the biggest companies in the usa, we have been getting ass blasted by not having access to laptops. We use em for everything and now there is a giant months long wait list to get some from the supply warehouse that everyone in the company uses. If we get through the Christmas rush with no problem, it should be fine. But idk bunch of people who I wouldn't trust with a calculator use em so we will see

They will tariff it. I knew some hues back in the day and they are masters at avoiding tariffs. They would buy my buddy a new computer for his business, which he would use for a month, then sell on as used to his cousin. Who worked at the Pentel pencil factory! Anyway they kept this up for years which always meant my buddy had hyper expensive new shit even SGIs. He didn't use them in business, just helped out his cousin. So I got to play with a huge amount of high end machines. One day back in like 1990 or some shit he had a dozen new Mac IIfx's complete with dual monitor setups, one big B&W one and a smaller color one. We played Bolo on that shit.

Build quality of Thinkpads has really dropped down over the past decade. They're not terrible but they're a far cry from where they were in, say, the Windows 7 era. They're riding on legacy clout the same way German automakers do.
I've been a Thinkpad autist for decades and I think my T14 G3 will be my last. Staggering number of motherboard failures, soldered RAM, lots of odd power management issues. May as well be an ASUS.

There was a reason back in the day, the firmware was figured out where you could get around blocks of installing non Lenovo cards, pretty easy Hackintosh install, could run windows server when vista was shit, etc. Now they’re just the same as every other business laptop.

Any machine shop can "emulate" it. If you're clever though you do what I did and get a Unimat One which works brass just fine and start making replacement parts for shit out of brass. Brass can even be used as the frame / receiver for a firearm and it's legal to make your own guns as long as you don't transfer them.

Back in like 2010 I tried to buy a corkscrew but they were all either made of plastic or pot metal. I went to the Goodwill a few times and found a gigantic French one made of chromed brass for $2. It will last a thousand years.

Be thankful we live under a Free Market Economy or your only choice would be stainless steel.
Honestly, I hope things get so bad that locally manufactured quality goods makes a comeback.
A majority of the kitchenware my grandparents had was made within 100 miles and lasted until someone threw it out for looking outdated.
Still have the cast iron skillets.

Increasing price means decreasing sales, there is an optimum price for any commodity like coffee or laptops which balances profit per unit and sales volume.

Tariffs always lead to people tightening their belts, they buy less. Especially less of the shit China makes of which none is essential. You have a woman't view of tariffs, you will buy as much of whatever you did before price be damned. That's not how it works.
