Australian Government Insider here Liberal Party Splitting Up
Hi, I have some legitment connections within the Australian Liberal Party (the conservatives for non Australians reading).

This process will probably take a few years but essentially the party is splitting up into two.

There is talk of the more conservative politicians leaving and joining the nationals.
Andrew Hastie the other day larping about putting tariffs on cars was seen as a big deal in the party.

Whist moderates in the Liberal party are increasingly talking to the Teals.

There is a real non larp about 20% chance of the party splitting with Australia ending up with a 3 party political system this would take some years though.

Nationals for Trump style conservatives/Protectionism and right wing ideas.

Liberals/Teals for more libertarian/business elite types who like more immigrants and want to stop climate change.

Labor just being the same.

This is why you see the Liberal party fight in the media a lot and why they can't agree to a policy.

There's no point in splitting unless they want to create a Reform UK style party aimed squarely at reducing immigration. Labor will win every election because street shitters vote 90% Labor.

The best hope is for One Nation to become a White advocacy group in Parliament and ensure no one can govern without their support. Australia will become minority White, and this cannot be reversed. The best hope is to preserve your rights and ensure legal equality.

Isn't Australia essentially doomed? It'll end up a one-party state for at least a decade, and the country already can't build infrastructure fast enough to deal with immigration. Combine that with hotter weather and to me it looks like we're on track to look more like India within a generation.

Won't happen, would be very funny if it did.
It's much more likely that One Nation is now becoming a "serious" major party on par with the greens. Rather than the big 3, it will now be the big 4.
Labor cannot govern with Green support in the senate, now Libs will also never govern with a senate majority.

Labor should be terrified about One Nation turning into a Reform UK because both Labor and Liberal only exist by bouncing off eachother, if you destroy one party, the other exists without purpose and the normies start asking questions.

Worth understanding that that the Liberal party expressly allows disagreements (and conscious crossing the floor) as part of the party. Labor does not allow this from its members.

Having said that I think you’re on point with your analysis in particular , why would you vote for a milquetoast lib, when you get just vote for a teal and get happy Insta stories every day. Either way no actual politics is getting done. So Libs need to change or split.

They're still scared that the jeets might decide they're sick of more and more immigrants and want to shut the door behind them though, which would lead to voting Liberal.

That obviously can't be allowed to happen, so the Liberal party will be split into two smaller, shittier versions, to ensure that neither of them will ever get enough votes to unseat Labor.

Labor allows disagreements, they just have to be kept to the cabinet or caucus rooms. When the party takes a position publicly it has to be adhered to. Cabinet and caucus solidarity is something all members have to agree to before being sworn in. But internally there’s tons of disagreements.

Pretty much guarantees Labor will be in power for decades unopposed. Dutton went to the previous election with Trump style policies and lost in the largest margin in Liberal party history. But the right wing faction is convinced Trumpism still has a place in Australia, despite voters resoundingly voting against it only a few months ago. The stupidity of the right wing faction in the Liberals is unbelievable. Trumpism is a personality cult and only works because of Trump himself, everyone else who has tried to replicate it has failed.

lmao, you shouldn't read into Australian political commentators' opinions as gospel. They are mostly blatant paid propagandists/party strategists.
People forget that Labor were also approaching extinction at the last election, the Liberals were not running on 'Trumpism'; they ran a dull, safe campaign then got absolutely fucked by bad timing. Even with Spud as leader, they entered this year with a comfortable polling lead and he did what would be enough historically to win a comfortable election but just prior to Trump's tariff drama and Canada's election.
Labor won because people were dumb enough to buy a last minute pitch that Dutton was ozTrump, the guy was promising to change nothing.

Regardless, Labor is still at their lowest point in history despite the majority, same as uk labour

It’s not really relevant whether Labor primary vote is historically low in a preferential system if they collect most preferences and Liberals capture very few (pretty much only One Nation)

Dutton tried to play the role of an authoritarian strongman, even if he had very little in the way of policies to back that up. It failed dismally but his party is convinced the public still wants it, despite every sign pointing to the contrary. Elections are won in the centre in Australia because of compulsory voting diluting the power of fringe extremists. Mobilising single issue voters and culture war nutters doesn’t work here like it does in the US. Liberals need to learn how our voting system works.

You’re right, faith in Labor is at historic lows and independent and minor party votes at historic highs. But ultimately it doesn’t matter because people almost always preference Labor above Liberal, so Labor wins regardless of their crap primary vote.

Tony Abbott effectively still runs the Liberals and thinks culture war and Sky News will get them power, which is deranged and stupid.

>It’s not really relevant whether Labor primary vote is historically low in a preferential system
this is true until they drop below 30%, where Labor's primary sits now is dangerously low. They run the risk of being knocked out early in preference flows which almost lost Labor several seats to INDs this year despite the crushing victory. It also means no senate.
It's not unreasonable to predict that Labor's base floor could drop from 30% to 20% when they inevitably oversee a horrific period of time. That 10% drop loses them an absolute fuck ton of seats, particularly in their ethnic strongholds.

All of the (((analysts))) are doing victory laps and sniffing their own farts instead of actually assessing what happened in the last election. Look at Canberra, north/west Melb, west Sydney, Perth.
