Is there an actual legitimate reason to be doing this at this point in time? The only reasoning I can even begin to think of is that the USA is supporting Argentina for their rare metals market in hopes of bringing literally anything of value to the table negotiation wise when Trump meets with China.The administration seems to just keep doubling down when nobody else is even at the table.
