US TAXES QUESTION, OPINION NEEDED
If I owe $0 as a NEET (living on dividends under the standard deduction), should I file taxes? Would there be any political implications for LEGALLY not filing federal taxes? Would a "gap year" look bad for any reason in the future? Or should I just fork over $60+ to turbotax?

Today is the last day for procrastinators for 2024 taxes.

turbotax has a free option anon
also I knew guys who would never submit taxes because they knew the returns would just go to their ex wife so it can't be a big deal

turbotax still jews you if you have a big 1099-div.
>oh you have investments goy? pay up

what i mean is, i can't seem to trigger the free option if i log the 1099-div. i get to the end and it says,
>oops, looks like you fell for our trap. your div too big so we had to use magic longer digital form which costs money. you owe us $60.
Anonymous (ID: 7QEaTeBK) United States No.518990889 [Report] >>518991220
>>518990499
then pay?
filling out those div forms correctly with all your stock information is a fucking pain and preparers like turbotax and h&r block have systems to auto import everything and auto fill everything out
if you don't like it pay a real accountant
or take your chances not filing anything. the IRS can and will steal money directly out of your bank accounts FYI

thanks. i know for sure i'm under the standard deduction and owe $0, and am 99.9999% certain i don't need to file

so i guess my main question is, since TT wants their pound of flesh:

>are there any downsides in the future to not filing and having a gap year?

>>518991056
thanks, yeah. doing that in parallel.

Yes. You have to file even with zero income

I guess I don't understand why you're sweating the $60 to secure your bags.
the IRS would probably audit if you didn't file for a year. even if they don't do anything and the audit clears it's annoying to deal with

um, i don't think that's true.

if you're thinking of state taxes, I live in a state with no state income tax.

>>518991540
i guess that's what i'm sussing out with your guys' help. and because fuck turbotax, but i also don't feel like figuring out one of those janky other sites, and it's too late for a Post Office postmark.

Filling out the paperwork without going to the Turbotax jew isn't hard, OP. Unless you're a complete fucking retard. Which you may very well be. I obviously don't know if you are, but asking for tax help on 4chun is a red flag.

Found the reference that says I DON'T, if anyone is curious themselves.

>You must file a return if your gross income for the year was at least the amount shown on the appropriate line in Table 1.

>a complete fucking retard
thanks for the compliment
>asking for tax help on 4chun

they don't have any fucking employees anymore they're not going to audit him
they know he has a 1099 that's under the limit and they know there was no w-2
from their perspective maybe he's got some unreported income but he's sure to be way way way way down on the list
>>518991666
just file it on paper late tomorrow you don't owe so literally nothing will happen

That's nice, but I'm just not going to file my taxes. Da fuk Schlomo gone do?
Really if they went hard then nobody would ever file after missing a year. So I don't think they do that, and didn't to me
