Hopefully, food bank centers will kick into overdrive like during Covid-19 lockdowns when they loaded up your trunk with food and you drove off and didn't even have to interact with anyone.
Plus lunches and breakfasts at school for the kids. After school programs feed children plus send a little home for them and the adults in the household.
No matter what happens, growing children shouldn't go hungry. And their mothers need to eat also to be able to care for them properly.

As far as if food stamps should exist or not, I'm in favor of work requirements for most but only after the 100 million non-citizens are deported, the border secured, and severe penalties ENFORCED for hiring non-citizens. At that point there will be no excuse for not having a job unless you're severely disabled. Until then, I don't give a shit if some poors get a couple hundred a month for food out of the multi-trillion dollar federal budget.

Payments have a one-month lead time. That means November and December may not get paid out in time.

The reason why shutdowns typically do not exceed a month is because public anger and costs significantly outpace the costs of compromise. Congress has been thoroughly studied and proven to not be responsive to public sentiment or government sway, but it is highly responsive to donor coercion. Once flights just do not fly because TSA keeps calling in sick and America's poor decides looting the nearest Wal-Mart is better for than missing rent, those CEOs and executives will attempt to force the matter.

Basically, look for signs that a bunch of rich assholes are going to threaten donor funding if they don't compromise on both ends. Trump may blame Democrats, but those donors will either tell the Democrats that they must sacrifice the healthcare credit hill they want to die on, and/or they'll tell Republicans to shut the fuck up and take it up the ass from the Democrats. Their careers will be on the line.
