It's important to understand that political extremists on the left and right don't give a shit about science or evidence.
In fact the more divorced from reality a lie is the better.
When someone is forced to repeat a lie as a political litmus test they sacrifice some of their dignity. When they do this they have dug themselves into a hole and they only way they can survive is to continue digging the hole and this means affirming the next lie and the next. The point is that it's a lie. If there was credible evidence that Tylenol *did* cause autism these people would pin it on something else instead.
If you sincerely believed this stuff you could be persuaded with evidence to the contrary, but when you are forced to knowingly lie it becomes impossible to break with the party line without implicating yourself and your colleges for going along with the past lies, so most people within the party keep their heads down and go along with it.
