Anyway, the criticism I've seen seems more about the concept of the system. You can complain about whatever piece of kit, but the issues with weight and recoil etc are all because of the concept. Swapping out parts or caliber because Sig sucks now or whatever doesn't really address the issue.

I don't wanna get super retarded, but it provides more negatives than benefits. Heavier rifle, more recoil, less rounds, barrel life on these are garbage. It will require more maintenance, parts wear out faster. I'm not going to get into the logistics of supplying new rifle rounds. Would have been fine as a DMR. Stick with the M4A1 and modernize it, or adopt the M27 that the Marines use. The new optic is a cheat code though, just bring plenty of batteries.

I hope it doesn't jam. When Canada went from the FN to the C7 I found that the C7 jammed like a mad cunt. I had one in the pipe and one holding the action back and another half out of the magazine. This was in the comfort of being on a range. With the FN we could adjust the gas and you could send that brass all the way to Tiju-fucking-wana. The C7, not so much. Sure, the 7.62 rounds were heavier and you had to re-adjust your aim after every shot but at least it kept on ticking.

Forcing it to have 1x makes higher mag worse. You need a higher base mag if you want to go up that high. It's supposed to be a long range rifle so abandon 1x and piggyback a dot, then go with something like a 4-12. That 4x low end will give you a much more usable high end.

Compared to 7.62 NATO, 6.8 is higher velocity and generally has a more aerodynamic bullet. Its cases are generally smaller, so more can fit in a magazine than 7.62, and the bullets themselves are lighter, generally causing less recoil. However, the version of 6.8 they chose has really high case pressure, to get the bullet to go as fast as specified out of a relatively short barrel. what's extra fucked is that with 6.5grendel and 6.8spc the army already had good examples of AR-pattern rifles that had the longer range desired with no impact on rifle weight, while still having long barrel life. So you traded slightly heavier bullets for much longer range & better wind resistance. They don't pierce body armor, but neither does the new rifle.

This is because the Army was retarded in demanding a new rifle and full power cartridge. The M16/M4 family of small arms are fundamentally excellent as infantry weapons. More focus should have been placed on 5.56 as a cartridge instead of the rifle. It is objectively true the bi-metallic cartridges can handle more pressure with mongoloids like Sobchak Security LLC doing hand loads with .277 fury brass modified to .308, .300 blk and all other sorts of other things having excellent performance. The technology has a massive potential. The current iteration of it just sucks. If they actually gave a shit about armor penetration they'd have issued 20" - 16"uppers with bi-metalic hot loads that would slice though anything the chinks could make. It would have been a fraction of the cost.

Unrelated and just for giggles. In Canadian Army Cadets in the 1980's you could wear whatever you wanted. "Brit Cam" was the pinnacle of fashion but guys generally mixed and matched whatever they wanted for their own look. I stuck with the Canadian issue combat dress but I did have a "wooly pulley" as seen in the C2 photo. Hamming it up for the camera is one of the Master Bombardiers with a Sterling and bayonet affixed. When some fag says "assault" I have to ask "Does it have a bayonet?". The rifle is fine, the new caliber is retarded. The reinforced casing technology it uses is cool; but it would have been better if they just applied it to existing calibers like .308 or 5.56.

Its a full scale battle rifle like the M14 which failed decades ago back when the military was composed of men that could all pass higher fitness standards than we have today. Now we've got a bunch of women and manlets in the service and we're issuing a battle rifle that fires a round that's more powerful than a .308 and that's so loud that the gun requires an integrated suppressor. And this is going to not just be a designated marksman rifle; but the standard infantry rifle. Its dumb.

They should have kept a standard carbine in either 5.56 or maybe .300 blackout as well as a squad automatic weapon in those smaller calibers and then introduced DMRs and full power machine guns chambered in .308. Apply the reinforced casing technology to the existing rounds and make the gas system adjustable so that the guns could cycle both the standard pressure and reinforced extra spicy rounds.

That accomplishes the goal of giving an infantry squad greater range by putting some DMRs in the unit and of giving them greater armor piercing potential against next gen body armor and drones; but it doesn't put all our eggs in one basket by trying to convert all our infantry to a one size fits all battle rifle.

That was the point. M1 Garand fired 30-06 (7.62x63)(fatfingered 64 in previous) and had a top loading 8rnd clip and fired semi-auto. Modified M1 Garands were changed to have a detachable box magazine for higher capacity and easier reloads.

M14 adds select fire full auto and changes ammunition to .308 (7.62x51) the new NATO standard, which is a modification of 30-06, but has a shorter case, but more chamber pressure which gives about the same performance in a smaller package.

M16 won out because the AR15 system has almost no recoil, +50% more ammo, and is very lightweight with great hydrostatic wounding within 250m.

If you ever fired a bolt action 5.56mm next to an AR15 5.56mm the recoil difference is gigantic.

I share your concern about the loss in ammo capacity and volume of fire. I have a feeling we will see M7A1 or a whole new rifle that addresses these unresolved problems. Likely larger magazines to get capacity back up to 30rds too. Suppressors might get ruggedized to be less effective, but lighter and more tolerant of heat and last longer.
