This narration is NOT describing a sexual assault, and the wording “يركبون رسول الله ﷺ” is being misunderstood.
Let me break it down clearly:

1. This report appears in Musnad Aḥmad under the narrations of ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd.

Yes — the story is real, and its chain is considered authentic.
But…
What is actually happening in the report is a supernatural encounter with non-human beings, not humans attacking him, and certainly not a sexual act.

2. Who are “الزطّ” here?

The narrator says:

“As if they were zutt”
This is a simile, not identification. The phrase “كأنهم” means “as though” or “as if.”
And even then, Ibn Masʿūd admits uncertainty and says "أو كما قال" multiple times — signaling hesitation and approximation about what they were.
The Prophet himself clarifies at the end:

“They are a group of angels.”

> “They are from the angels, as Allah willed.”
This completely removes the idea that these are actual Zutt tribesmen.

Even if you make it as generous as possible it still specifically dictates that they did something physical onto him and he was in pain and fatigued from whatever it was, however you wish to interpret the riding/mounting/impressing upon.
