Nothing too exotic, just native species I capture during the breeding season and often I release them once the nest outgrows my terrarium.

In a study published July 2 in the journal Current Biology, scientists detail how Florida carpenter ants, a common, brown species native to its namesake, selectively treat the wounded limbs of fellow nestmates—either by wound cleaning or amputation.

When experimentally testing the effectiveness of these "treatments," not only did they aid in recovery, but the research team found the ants' choice of care catered to the type of injury presented to them.

"When we're talking about amputation behavior, this is literally the only case in which a sophisticated and systematic amputation of an individual by another member of its species occurs in the animal Kingdom," says first author Erik Frank, a behavioral ecologist from the University of Würzburg.

when an ant dies it produces an acid that other ants can smell. once they pick up the scent they carry the dead ant to the dead ant pile. if you spray a live ant with this acid, thus making it smell like a dead one, the other ants will forcefully carry it into the pile against its will. the ant will then come back, only to be carried back to the pile again and again. they have NO fucking clue what's going on ever and they just act purely on instinct like niggers
