Kids are pretty much indoctrinated by their middle and highschool programs that college is the end-all-be-all. These loans are predatory by their very nature of being sold to kids.
Federal student loans have been an absolute disaster. All they did was devalue college, create a mass of overqualified indebted graduates, needlessly inflate job requirements (now requiring degrees for stuff that never needed degrees before), and I could go on and on. We'd be better off if things were as they were decades ago when only a select few went to college for stuff that actually required it. And those college grads actually had jobs because their fields weren't flooded. And regular jobs could just be done by normal high school graduates instead. The whole system is fucked.
