Indonesia has approved a $9 billion budget for the purchase of the Chinese Chengdu J-10 single-engine delta-wing fighter jet, Jakarta Finance Minister Purbaja Yudhi Sadhewa told reporters on October 15, 2025. This will make Indonesia the second country in the world (the first is Pakistan) and the first in Southeast Asia to purchase the aircraft.

Has Indonesia even any enemies in the area? What's the point of this being dependent on foreign powers for high tech stuff?
If you can't build the stuff yourself fully independently then you will not sustain a real war.
Possibly doing low intensity stuff the pakis and jeets did some time ago milking some flavour points for internal population?

indonesian military spending is one of the lowest in the world, around 0.1% of GDP despite having many threats (papuan rebel, South china sea, solomon islands+vanuatu hostility).
it's a good thing to catch up with military tech by buying them in small amount.
