actually it's because the Abrahamic Scriptures (all of them) are short on wisdom.. there's no wisdom in the Scriptures.. so, I think that in people's times of greatest need, that need was for wisdom and not for Scripture.. the gospel and the psalms, for example, are not wisdom.. nor is the Quran.. in fact, the Quran says not to grieve.. or, more accurately, that believers don't grieve over the will of God.. this isn't helpful for people who are dealing with loss, and death.. it really isn't.. Socrates, of all people, was who was turned to.. and I think quite rightly so.. Socrates had the words for people in need; because he was wise.. that wisdom fed into his deeply held belief in God.. this is all in Phaedo, but you didn't know that
