If you really are, just do some projects on your own and show employers you can do something that is applicable for industry.
Do a bit of research and you'll start to see that a lot of "military" technology is really not that different from ordinary civilian technology. The same principles apply for flight controllers for civilian-use airplanes and helicopters as they do for military drones. Also, guns are really just an arrangement of springs and loaders that are not that different on the inside from, say, clickable ballpoint pens.
Robotics is really easy on the coding side once you got some knowledge of how servo motors work and how to control them. What is a bit of a pain is actually designing a frame for a robot and then thinking about all the joints and trusses you gotta draw and assemble on CAD programs in order to produce the right motions (no need for knowing how to calculate D-H matrices, anyway, since any robotics simulator will do that for you).
