I've been to Hiroshima and that's not why they targeted Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Nagasaki was a secondary target and was only nuked because the other location was obfuscated by clouds. In fact, all military targets at Nagasaki were missed, they ended up bombing the suburbs because the pilots and bombardiers panicked because they were running out of fuel and offload at the bomb pretty much anywhere they could and called it a day.
That aside, the reason why Hiroshima and Nagasaki were targeted was because they were flat seaside valleys surrounded by mountains on all other sides.
Why, you ask? Because this is the ideal condition for a scientific experiment. The bombings were scientific experiments meant to collect data for an upcoming nuclear war against the Soviet Union.
There was no military tactical reason for the bombings. It was an act of genocide in the name of scientific progress and military prowess.
