1) Companies need to be prevented and punished regarding replacing domestic workers with foreign immigrant who will work for less pay and be dependent on work visas, making them effectively a captive workforce. We KNOW that this is happening and that companies are skirting around the laws designed to limit this, this needs to be enforced. So long as a company can pay an indian immigrant 90k a year instead of an american worker 105k, they'll always be looking for a way to fired you and replace you with someone willing to work for cheaper, artificially creating an unemployable class of domestic workers.
2) We need to make having kids more attractive as an option. America has decided that your employer gets to decide where you get to have healthcare, maternity leave, and daycare. And companies largely don't want you to have that because that means less profits for them, so you dont get to have it. Having a kid in america is expensive for both parents, but especially destructive for the women who have to basically give up everything to make this work. The personal sacrifice makes the cost of this too high for women to want to pay.
Meanwhile, lets look at Canada. In Canada, its not uncommon for families to get up to a full year of maternity leave, some allocated specifically to the mother and the rest which can be used by either parent as needed, as well as an ironclad job security with your employer that says that they can't fire you because you are using maternity leave or right after you get back. This allows people to have kids without nuking their career or immediately risking going into debt.
