Lulwut, is this a thing in Finland? US millennials view the 50s as this oppressive hell world where they couldn't suck as many cocks in public as they would've wanted.

Current world is so fucked and they're hopeless about the future, so the only way to move elsewhere is into the past. There's nowhere else physically to go, and they're too weak to make something happen in the real world. Also do not fall for the 'old car' meme, anons. It is not worth it unless you are genuinely wealthy and have a serious passion for it.
>inb4 but bro this old car is so cool and not that expensive! trust!
No.
I got lucky with my "classic" car, it's still great, old beautiful V8 coupe, but that's just it: lucky.

Those 850s were one of the best BMW models they ever created. Followed by the more boxier looking 525 series of the mid 90s. All the new ones I see now look gay and retarded and I wouldn't even know they were BMW if it wasn't for the outrageously oversized flared nostrils they slapped on the front.

Last year I sold my 1986 mint-condition MR2 to a 25 year old black kid. For $25K! I couldn't believe it. He just had to have it because "I love everything about the 80s". He couldn't even drive stick; I drove during the test drive. He brought his mechanic to inspect it, and then agreed to pay my asking. It was in museum condition with only 22K miles, but come on man, it's almost 40 years old. Oh well, I didn't tell him that I paid $8K for it six years ago, and put about $2K into replacing engine components. It was a real head scratcher.

We want old cars because
1. You can actually fix them yourself
2. They dont break nearly as common as new cars
3. They dont have Goytech (TM) tracking devices installed in them
4. Theyre usually more comfortable and better designed (bench seats, ash trays, cigarette lighters, knobs/switches > screens, etc;
I was born in 2004, my car is older than I am. All but one of my friends cars are older than they are (excluding the oldheads I know). I will NEVER buy a car made past 2008 (as a rule of thumb).

It's true though, most new cars look similar to each other, and there are limited colors to cut down on production cost. Everything about the styling of cars today is absolute dog shit and that is a fact. You can just randomly look up an old car from the 1960's and even if it's a fucking station wagon it will have more style than any mass produced car today.

Engines are being downsized and turboed. Overengineered and overstressed. This is because of fuel economy regulations and emissions and other fake bullshit. Engines used to be big and relaxed. Understressed and overbuilt. Look at the old tacomas and tundras with the v6s and v8s and the new ones with the stressed little turbo i4s blowing up. Toyotas reputation is going down the tubes over it.

Even then, it's an electronic fuel-injected engine with computer-controlled valve timing. You can't even put a set of cams on it without having special tools and secret knowledge about who the whole system works.
That 290HP V6 is possible due to some stupidly edge mode engineering and trickery that makes the entire thing way more fragile and prone to failures.

Here it was the decade when we actually started catching up with the 1st world, transforming from a mostly agrarian society into an urban, industrial one. Plumbing, electricity, household appliances like washing machines and fridges started becoming normal rather than luxuries for the rich. But there was also the looming threat of the soviet union, our politicians had to choose their words wisely and foreign policy was more or less dictated by Moscow.
Interesting times but I don't know any millennial who's nostalgic for that era specifically.

was half submerged in a ravine full of water, wrecker pulled it out..it cranked right up.

had to have hood clamps.. wire hangers holding fenders on.. a/c would kill the car if you turned it on at a red light or in city traffic

had an oil leak where it had to have oil put in every week and a half

had to replace a couple belts that would come off occasionally and it had a few other issues too but..
finally I got tboned in it. smashed me in the side ..windows busted..was facing the opposite direction when it was over ..I didnt even know wtf happened. couldnt open either door on that side anymore. frame was fucked. I was sad. I drove it for a week before they got the motor out. people would point and laugh

BUT MAN I LOVED THAT FUCKING CAR AND WOULD ABSOLUTELY BUY ANOTHER ONE IF I CAME ACROSS IT. sadly its kind of impossible. 99s you can find used sometimes for sale but no 98s :(

Thanks to the internet and a lot of content dealing with previous generations, specifically the 80's, 90's, and 00's, Gen Z/Gen A are realizing just how amazing that stretch of time was for white and asian nations. During my time in school (thankfully private), I watched as Gym, Home Economics, Trade based classes, Practical Law, etc., quietly disappeared from curriculums and instead got replaced by "goto college or you'll die poor" rhetoric.

College was also not as expensive when I graduated in '09, but it was starting to balloon to unreasonable levels. Sure, more expensive than the 70's, 80's, and 90's, but still had an actual value to go and get a degree. None of those ridiculous degrees floating around then.

I think it's pragmatic. New cars are shitty, break often and come with subscription plans and gps tracking. Anyone smart wants proven automobiles that might last to 1 million miles. Zoomers want a car that simply drives when you press the gas, no unnecessary bullshit. That choice is obviously a better than a $100k shit mobile with 10,000 different electronic features that constantly break. Auto techs get paid starvation wages so you'll wait 3 months before they touch your broken shit box because kikes can't take home $30 million a year unless everyone in the chain gets exploited to the maximum. Gassing the kikes is optimal but taking little steps to not play their game is the best bet.

Man the upkeep is just too much sometimes

Like I love my old car but mechanics always pretend to fix shit, charge you, and it breaks in two days. After MONTHS of this they actually open the engine up and fix it. This country has too many thieves for you to ever have a single good to yourself.

I think they just want nice things, and most new things being made aren't very nice. So they reach for what they can get.

I want an old 240 series Volvo, but in the hunt for one I found this 2007 V8 S80. Cosmetically in pretty good condition but mechanically fucked, slowly been fixing shit. It used to leak oil everywhere, misfired, doesn't anymore. Been hunting for missing trim pieces etc.
Figure I'll keep it as long as possible because Volvo doesn't even make a 6 cylinder anymore much less an 8.
>twin charged hybrid 1.6 in your 3 ton SUV?
>It's more likely than you think
That shit is frustrating as all hell. How the fuck am I supposed to fix something that is turbocharged, supercharged, VVT, and hybrid electric?
My brain is tapped out fixing a lawnmower man that shit can go in the bin.

Uh. Right. Sure.
Please disregard serviceability and the complete lack of model selection.

There's quite some truth to that. There's an awful lot of "I heard this so I'll parrot it as universal truth!" and probably even more of "I lust over this and that, therefore it's the best! What, no, I don't own one, or have even driven one."

>Gen Z distrusts new cars with all their tracking and computer nonsense
Not surprising. They got to experience the enshitification first hand. They don't want their car to "vibe code" them off the interstate.

Things that belong in the bin:
>twin charge
>hybrid
>anything with 3 cylinders
>anything with a wet belt
>touchscreen infotainment, it just makes the car look old after 3 years, buttons are timeless and easy to fix
>emissions recirculation - fucking your engine to save the environment
>the entire indian subcontinent
>israel
That is all thank you for your attention to this matter
