Getting rid of the filibuster would be an extremely bad idea. There's a reason Republicans haven't done it yet.

Unlike other retards I knew this shit was coming down the pike after Trump said that the election was stolen in 2020. I will literally vote for any other Republican or Democrat besides him and his cronies. However he is still bound by some of the balances in our system despite how much it makes you cry.
>>520237995
Because again getting rid of the filibuster requires a pretty big political consequence that no one wants to swallow. Especially not the Senate. It's like they're only significant power.

It's absolutely how it could work, the filibuster is currently just a "rule" and it could be codified.

The nuclear option allows the Senate to override a standing rule by a simple majority. They use that to change remove the filibuster rule all together. Now that there is no filibuster there is only a simple majority required to change rules or pass laws. They do what needs to be done here. Then when they are done they codify the filibuster in law vs as a Senate rule, this will only need a simple majority vote because they've already used the nuclear option to get rid of the filibuster in the first place. This issue is which of the RINOs would fuck them over during this process. There's the optics about being a fucking HUGE power grab though.

>>520238239
That’s not how any of this works, and pretending it is just screams you don’t understand basic Senate procedure. The filibuster isn’t some toggle switch you can flip off, pass a few bills, then “codify” back into existence like nothing happened. The nuclear option changes precedent, not the actual rules, and you’d still need the same votes and political backing to make anything permanent. You’re basically describing a cartoon version of Congress where majority rule is magic and constitutional limits don’t exist. It’s the kind of take that sounds bold until someone who’s actually read the rules points out how ridiculous it is.

That is the thing about American law. Precedent matters. Once something is done, it can be done again and again because it has been done before. Republicans change something, then when Democrats get back into power they use that change to their advantage and vice versa.

Funny you should mention that. Back during Biden's presidency, I think it was Congress said the presidential immunity does not carry over after their tenure. That is their reasoning why they could arrest Trump. At the moment The House is trying to use the autopen fiasco to nullify all those pardons Biden signed, including Obama.

Because whether or not I agree with the administration, this kind of volatility is not sustainable for a country that has a diversity of thought. Liberals socialists communists Nazis libertarians etc all live in this country and we have to have policies that overlap in what we value the most which is life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
