My opinion on this interview is that Americans are the problem.
The politics of America is just a never ending cycle of change. The goalposts are always been moved. America was built on a liberal constitution therefore it will always resort back to it's principles of liberalism/universalism.
The "conservatives" in America are more liberal than the people on the left. Everything is just about "owning the libs". They want to unite the American nation as one people but this is only achievable under universalist values.
Nationalist in Europe were tribalist and this is just something that the American mind and modern European can't comprehend. The idea of exclusion is foreign to them.
