Regardless, it's in line with the whole key versicle of John 8:33 that I replied to: a Pharisee says "we [i.e. our ancestors] were also descendants of Abraham, but never slaves in Egypt", that means "we descend from Esau" because all the Israelites were slaves according to the assumption/belief of the time. So how can they be Israelites without being slaves? Well, they're not Israelites, but Esauites.
