If the government has the land and by extension the raw resources under its control, and the workers are the ones who process the raw resources into goods, why do we need a parasitic middle man (capitalist) at all?

The most simple argument you can get against the viability of communism in the 21st century is that capitalist productivity goes hand in hand with technological development; this thing is a nuclear global power. Any refusal to participate in it, especially without isolationism, makes the economy either doomed to fail against the others or forced to participate with them. With any kind of economic imperialism that will always exist on the globe, moral matters of the general capitalist system are irrelevant at this point. It's as idealistic and absurd as trying to abolish artificial intelligence; it's fundamentally integrated into our daily lives and we cannot simply get rid of it anymore. Rejecting this take by rushing back to the dialectical copium that made Marx ineffective in the first place will always doom you to the archaic dead-end of Hegel's bullshit.
There will always be an element of parasitism and exploitation so long as power exists. Capitalism will always exist somewhere so long as the industrial revolution began.
