He was such an extreme socialist that the socialist party in Italy ejected him from the party for being too extreme. Look it up.

His mistake was invading Ethiopia which made France and England put sanctions on Italy which forced them to align with Germany.
His ambitions were much greater than Italy could handle.
But even then if he stayed out of the war and acted like Spain then he could still rule in the 50s 60s....
His economy was really hurt by the sanctions and all money spend on 1930 war technology completely unfit to fight a 1940 war.
He joined the war because he believed when France falls the entire war would be over and he was deeply jealous about Germany's gains and wanted to be part of the winning side in the peace talks to get some of the cake too.

What he personally believed didn't matter THAT much since he was not an all powerful figure with full unconditional trust from all sectors of the country like Hitler had in Germany.
Tortellini had to always balance in his actions to make everyone happy.
The king, navy, army, industrialists, peasants, politicians. He had to make them all happy at once while they all had contradictory wants/needs so to balance that out together with his own ambitions was extremely hard to do and limited his power.

His worst mistake was invading Greece which was at the time relatively pro German and at worst neutral.
Not only did he created another enemy for no other reason than muuh neo rome and not only that he was actually pushed back and Greece moved forward in analbania.

Are you a swarthy South Italian? Had your family criminal background?
Or perhaps even Jewish?
Mostly those ran away from Italy at those times.

>His worst mistake was invading Greece
yawn, again with this myth.
the real mistake was not allowing 1-2 german tank divisions coming to Libya in the summer 1940. That would have been more than enough to take Suez. Then the entire middle east, which was staunchly po-Axis anyway. With infinite oil and total access to Africa, the war would have been won.

Italy in 1920 wasn't a pleasant place to live. Everybody and their Nona was heading to America.

It's crazy that Italy as a winner of the great war still ended up with similar or even worse problems like the losers.

Suez canal was actually not used much in the war so was not that important.
Even if we had the middle east it was still the allies completely controlling the oceans so we would need turkey to get on our side too or at least allowed to travel through it and back then oil production in the middle east was low unlike today.

He was right but we barbarians won at the end against the roman empire and in 1943 Italy became our satellite puppet state.
Unlike Himmler with his germanic pagan larp Hitler actually admired the roman empire.

Russia was invaded as a preemptive strike before they could get their shit together and follow through with their plan to invade and take over Europe.
Oil had nothing to do with it.

It had a little to do with it because russian invasion was such a big threat partly because of the insecure position of the romanian oil fields Germany was depending on

Later on most oil for Germany was produced by making oil from our coal.
Romania was very relevant but no our only source.
