I am somewhat proficient in Spanish, having taken 4 years in high school. At a certain point, I became so disillusioned with America that I decided to try living in Latin America for several months. I chose Argentina, so among the safest bets with the most amenities. I simply couldn't do it. I felt a part of myself dying as I immersed myself in Spanish because it feels so robotic. That could just be my impression from lacking even more proficiency, but the feeling came to me more and more as I learned it.

I had a layover in Budapest on my way to Armenia last month and met a blue eyed Hungarian woman. Blue eyes are rare in Southern Europe so I was surprised.
