Yes. The Jewish community has managed to remain insular and culturally distinct for millennia by fostering a sense of ethnic superiority and contempt for non-Jews. A side-effect of this indoctrination is that it also makes them insufferably narcissistic, sociopathic and cruel to non-Jews, and eventually everybody gets sick of them. But if they weren't educated to think of themselves as superior, they would inevitably assimilate, and many Jewish authorities think suffering or even inviting persecution is better than the Jewish group breaking up and ceasing to exist.
