It's hard to say what kind of a father he was to his children. I doubt he was a monster like everyone seems to be making him out to be but he probably was a selfish guy. Obviously there is no good reason to ever leave a toddler alone and unattended in a car. I get that children sleep better in cars sometimes and all that, so sleep in the car with them. He probably had a habit of doing this and became more and more careless.
