Catania Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested nine years of imprisonment for three Egyptian men accused of participating in the gang rape of a 13-year-old girl in the public restrooms of Villa Bellini in Catania back in January.
Prosecutor Anna Trinchillo also requested a sentence of five years and four months for a fourth accomplice who cooperated with investigators in identifying the rest of the group.
The prosecutor’s sentencing requests were presented before the Second Criminal Section of the Catania Court on Tuesday.

The rape took place on the evening of Jan. 30, in the Bellini Gardens during the festivities for Saint Agatha, Catania’s patron saint. According to the indictment, the victim, aged 13 at the time, was walking with her 17-year-old boyfriend when they were stopped and surrounded by a group of seven young men. The boyfriend was restrained and beaten to prevent him from intervening, while two of the group — one adult and one minor, both of Egyptian origin — raped the girl inside a public restroom.
