Once upon a time I had zero digital profile.
Then I took a trip to Peru for vacation and was forced (yes forced) to do the whole digital profile, all fingers, retinal, face scan. In Peru Airport. But done by US ops. So, there went the digital anonymity.
This was years ago. These days its done in a dozen ways. Not the least of which is your phone. But also other sneaky ways like fingerprints by those "metal detectors" you see in stores, govt buildings, schools, airports. I know a guy with a patent on part of that tech.

Anyway, they already have your digital info. Its done. The ID is just a formality.

I got two situation where I was made implicitly aware that there is some kind of data profile containing my private info floating somewhere on the web. First was years ago when Google fused my youtube and gmail account without my consent when they both had different credentials and emails. The second was when I registered to imdb using false credentials (lmao yeah right that im gonna give my credit info for a free month of imdb amazon...) and the very next day I started to recieve fraudulent spam on my phone trying to pass as Amazon services, despite me never giving them my number as part of the subscription, and It was the first amazon service I ever registered to so they couldnt have had my data beforehand.

Big tech basically have entire profiles of everyone, and they basically just sell it to the highest bidder in bulk. The gov trying to implement similar system is a gift in disguise, because incompetent gov will fuck it up and make the issue more popular to speak about.

The solution? Stop giving these companies your data!

Switch to Linux.
Use free software whenever available.
Use Freetube/Invidious instead of YouTube.
Use Tor browser for anything that doesn't require an account.
Always avoid giving up personal info and pay with XMR when you can.
Cancel all your subscription services and start pirating everything. (You can torrent through Tor, it's just slow)
Use Matrix, XMPP+Omemo instead of Discord.

Protecting your privacy used to be common sense practice online.
