People are overthinking this. There have been declassified documents showing that the government has experimented with spraying chemicals into the atmosphere, including aluminum particles for radar reflectivity. Why would the government stop doing experiments if they used to do them just a few decades ago? Also if they wanted to mass spread something using commercial planes, they could just put it in the fuel. If the particles are small enough (on the order of angstroms) they wouldn't fuck with the combustion, so planes wouldn't have to be modified. That said, some of what was talked about in the interview was kind of cringe, such as not understanding that water contained in the exhaust can form tiny ice crystals. I live next to a major airport so there is a lot of air traffic coming in to land, departing, or flying over at cruise altitude and i have never seen contrails since i moved here due to the climate conditions.
