Just as a rule of thumb to live by, and this applies no matter your political persuasion, never, ever, in under no circumstances, believe a promise from the government for some unexpected windfall like a $2000 check, not until the check has been received and finally cleared in your bank account.
I have seen this rodeo multiple times, where some major authority figure promises something nearly unheard of from government (usually about giving away money to commoners), and then some significant portion of the public believes them and starts expecting that windfall. In the end, they nearly always turn out to be disappointed, so they got their hopes up for nothing, or just to have them dashed.
Until these $2000 checks clear your bank accounts, don't trust in them. You're just setting yourself up for disappointment.
As the saying goes, "If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is."
