I don’t get easily distracted and wander in 10 different directions per seconds in my thinking. Personally, I do not think the "disorder" is bad to have. But most people are not in an environment that allows them the freedom to decide what, when, and how to complete societal obligations. Not everyone gets to self-direct creative work or simple trades work in a nonurgent timeframe. Yes, it is harmful. Physical it causes hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and stroke. Mentally it causes impaired judgement, insomnia, and later psychosis. It's the most abused psychiatric medication in our country today. I work as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and right beside psychiatrists day in and day out. I think amphetamine salts should be a schedule I drug. Ritalin should be as strong as ADHD meds are allowed to get. This is an epidemic of abuse now, and I'm tired of dealing with it.
