I used to ask the same question (sort of theatrically) until I stopped pretending like I don’t understand why. The answer is this: killing people is the costliest thing you can do. The price is your life in one form or another, either Imprisonment or death. Otherwise, it’s very simple: if you kill your enemies, you win.

This is ofcourse notwithstanding the self-handicapping christcuckery and “Muh principles” of the right. Remove the threat of imprisonment/death and there will still be a backup force keeping the right peaceful. This is why the left wins by the way, they have zero compunction and correctly understand the political situation as an “us vs them” zero sum adversarial conflict. The side that really wants their enemies dead and views them as less than human is actaully at a huge advantage.
