Modern boats are overpriced by jews, they charge 100x the cost of its production. Older boats are great and worth their price but they have leaks and need some tedious maintenance.
But the main problem is that local government doesn’t like that, and it sees you as skirting their rent system. So they really come after you. In GA they actually made it a felony if they suspect you to be living on your boat. In fact it’s so bad that sailors forums advise you to put on your motor and sail past GA waters as fast as possible and don’t stop there overnight. Because they can charge you.
In many parts of the US, even CA where they used to supprot this lifestyle, they have turned on it because of the large number of people skirting the apartment rent by doing this. You can still get away with it but be aware these are the challenges.
And boats aren’t super expensive to maintain like boomers try to say (it’s a heckin money hole!) it’s not. You need to do the maintenance yourself though which is why I said it’s tedious (albeit very cheap this way).
One last thing. Your best bet is to build your own boat. High quality, very cheap, and with AI automation you might be able to keep your day job while robots buikd it for you. However… you need lots of land way out in the boonies to get away with this, since people will snitch on you (local gov hates you building your own shit and they’ll take you to court for it). And you need a body of water connected to the ocean that’s deep enough to launch your boat into, if your boat is too large for a trailer or id the sails are too tall to pass under road infrastructure.
Then, there’s the exorbitant unnafordable price of this land to consider, which is why you’re looking at boat life in the first place.
