Im black- and characters like this do nothing for me- and I especially hate when white fans online just slap the “HECKIN’ relatable” tag on them- no they’re not- maybe to you- but what’s relatable about them to anyone else? You’ll never be able to convince me a white man is an underdog- that just destroyed my suspension of disbelief everytime

I could never get into the yes movement- I found it balogna- how can you say the guy who’s a multiple time world champion and has a stupid catchphrase is being “held back”? He beat John Cena at SummerSlam for Christ sake- you know who was REALLY held back? Kofi Kingston! CM Punk is the only archetype of this character I enjoy because he knows he’s not an actual underdog in reality- he’s self aware and acknowledges he’s gotten way farther than he should have giving his baseline talent- but he simply deserves just as much as the other white guys who have overachieved with the system on their back- it’s why he’s the only one of these that actually managed to stay over after winning the big one

How could I forget the peak of this character type with the American nightmare himself?- aptly named because he is the American nightmare- an entitled white guy who thinks he’s owed the world because he exists- guy shows up with blonde hair and a suit and now he’s supposed to win the belt- because? His dad was fat and wore polka dots? How on earth did this captivate so many people?- again as a black man. I couldn’t have cared less about Cody’s story and Roman’s was far more enthralling- the family drama with the bloodline and the fact he was actually rejected by the crowd for years and finally started winning them over was more interesting to me- can anyone explain what made Cody’s “story” so good? Because I didn’t think there was one to begin with

Ignoring the bait, is Hangman really an underdog though? I thought the whole idea of his character was that he's a great wrestler who can beat the top guys in the company but just doesn't see more success because he tends to get in his own way.

I'd like to see some good black wrestlers that have mic skills and not just ability. Jay Lethal came closest for his time, but honestly I just don't see it on anyone currently. Swerve is fun to watch at times, but he has zero mic skills. MVP is probably the best you have on the mic and he can't wrestle.
