Wrestling is hard and most people don't even get decent at it until they're 35 and with better health and nutrition, not to mention much lighter schedules than the territory days, guys are lasting longer than ever.

The reason so many of the 2000s indie darlings became stars was because they had to travel all over the place and learn to adapt and get over in front of all different crowds.
You don't get the same kind of range by spending your formative years wrestling in a warehouse hundreds of times under the wing of Albert, and traveling for indie bookings is so much more prohibitively expensive than it was 20 years ago. Obviously the indie pay was never good but the losses are so much bigger now that people straight up can't do it.
Not to mention the homogeneity and staleness of the indie scene since the pandemic. There's nowhere in America TO get a clue anymore.
