He was always good and still is, he only gets booed because he's a Trump supporter and the AEW crowd is so liberal they let political affiliations affect who they enjoy as a professional wrestler.

HI GUYS! In the world of professional wrestling, a wrestler takes certain actions to achieve the desired reaction from the crowd! And I've been a professional wrestler for over 35 years, so I should know! THANKS GUYS!

Him being fat and lazy in AEW while pretending it's the best work of his career really soured a lot of people on Jericho. For years, he was the guy that should have been the big star in WWE, and he finally gets a chance to shine and carry a company and he's just totally out of shape and not even trying.

I'd buy it as a work if it was during his current Learning Tree era, but this was peak headliner Jericho and he was completely phoning it in. He's just milking the money mark until he decides to retire, then he'll go back to WWE for one last big paycheck, work a final WrestleMania, then sign a do nothing Legends deal and get put in the Hall of Fame.

Without Jericho AEW would not have happened, especially the way things turned out with COVID and Punk coming back when he did. They needed a recognizable wrestler in order to secure a TV deal, most likely, and Jericho was the guy.

It was building up for a while but this feud was when he went completely over the edge into indefensibility. The match itself was easily AEW's lowest moment since they got out of Daily's Place. Obviously Adam Cole was just as bad here, but he was sawdusted and shouldn't have been cleared to come back so soon in the first place (even if it's his facial acting that made the feud so much worse)

He absolutely was good. Not just good, great. I was never a massive Jericho mark or anything but imo I consider him better than Shawn. Dude could do it all, was gold on the mic, never let himself get stale, and could have a good match with anyone.

I don't really watch his AEW stuff because the little I have is embarrassingly shit. But I assume most people turned on him when they realized he was an out of shape has been who is clearly just there for a paycheck. Not to mention the delusions of grandeur he has about himself and about AEW for a long time. I'm sure being a Trump supporter doesn't help at getting the trannies riled up, either.

WWE crowds are a general American crowd. Not fully left or right. Also WWE doesn't highlight politics at all. Not a peep about Black History Month. Not a peep about about Alphabet Month. Probably won't say shit about breast cancer month either. They completely distanced themselves from all of that. Which was a smart move imo. No point in alienating either side. I like it because while I'm watching wrestling I don't want to be lectured. I want to be entertained.

When he went to AEW as an old fart and after decades of bitching about men in their late 40s and in their 50s only to do the same thing and just be worse.
He stopped being Jericho the character and became Jericho the person. He takes everything so personally and desperately wants you to think he is cool and act like hes still in his 20s or 30s.

jericho was in GOAT contention for a lot of people as recently as 2-3 years ago. calling him top 10 all time, no one would even bat an eye at that.
it is only in the last couple of years that he has really started to get go away heat by just not being able to hack it anymore.
he was the perfect person to put the belt on first in AEW. and he could still go for a few years after that. i hope that he'll wrap up whatever the fuck it is he's doing by the end of next year and hang up the boots and people will go back to recognizing him as one of the best ever.

People turned on Chris Jericho the person because he has become the very thing he used to speak out against when he was still in his prime, and still delivering great wrestling and elite character work.

He's the worn out, old-timer, blow hard who takes up screen time and thinks he is one of the greatest to ever do it(which is different to being one of the best to ever do it).

'We aren't booing you because of your effective heel work, we are booing you because you are simply awful' is what sums up Jericho now. He used to be great, but everyone else besides him has realised those days are long behind him.

If anything them using Jericho for the ROH deal is proof that they hired him for AEW's TV deal as well, so your logic is bad there. It just happened to fail now because Ring of Honor is a dead promotion and it's a different landscape than 2019.

He insists upon himself.
First he got fat and lazy.
Then he got fat lazy, and stupid
Then he got his shit together for a bit, started to get back in shape
Then he got hokey but that's allowed and it was somewhat appropriate for his age
Then he teased retirement and it was so well received he didn't retire
Then he created the Jericho "rub", a rub so good it grinded every new talent he worked with in the ring down
Then he created the 'Jericho vortex' often synonymous with the Jericho "rub" but also included established talent he was working with and against for extended periods of time
Then he entered the post-modern gimmick shuffle Jericho era with Vortexes so big it included factions and ROH.

On the surface level it's even admirable in some ways. He's extending his career beyond expectations, doing everything to be a effective heel, but it's while he is deteriorating as a performer, hogging spotlight and working other talent down the ladder. It generates the go-away heat more than anything when his skills and talents are applied in the wrong place, as a active wrestler instead of a effective manager - but he doesn't seem to understand that his time as a main character of his factions is over even if he has the biggest name recognition.
Seeing that for more than a year became too tiresome to care about

His signature ability to 'reinvent himself' (the thing that he and smarks insist makes him the GOAT) should be called out for what it really is - the lack of ability to create a compelling character that has steam long term.

The real all-time greats never had to 'reinvent' themselves after they hit. Once they found the character that worked, they stuck with it, because people never got tired of it. All of Jericho's gimmicks have had increasingly shorter shelf lives.

>real all time greats never had to "reinvent" themselves
>once they found the right character that worked, they stuck with it, because people never got tired of it
>Hulk Hogan turned heel unexpectedly
>The Rock turned heel 3 times due to people getting tired of him
>Stone Cold had no need to turn heel yet he turned because Vince felt like doing it since he himself was bored of his character and knew that changing things up would be good long term knowing that people would've ended up getting bored of his character at some point
>Brock Lesnar got over with his dumb suplex city gimmick and became a lazy piece of shit and people got bored of him, so he turned into a retarded cowboy to freshen things up
>John Cena played the super Cena character for so long people shoot wanted him dead, celebrated his injuries and booed him for years until he became a part timer, and was no longer shoved down our throats, but even then people still begged him to quit being a boring stubborn faggot and change his character for once in his miserable life, people getting bored of him is the only reason he turned heel
>Kek Roman Reigns sucks
>Undertaker debuted as the deadman and constantly reinvented himself over the years with variations of the deadman character and also as the American Badass so he wouldn't become a boring retard
>Kane did the same with his character, Corporate Kane was shit and it only happened because he became stale over the years
>Edge didn't "need" to reinvent himself after he came back from retirement and could've gotten cheap nostalgia pops till the day he retired but decided to create Judgement Day because he got bored of being nostalgia bait
Kek you're delusional, Jericho is goated, now I give you, the text, of Jericho, READ IT ALL MAAAANNNNN

Literally the only good examples you listed are Hogan and Taker. The rest are either bad decisions (most of them quickly reversed), heel turns that retained the basic character, or slight adjustments. None of those are 'reinventions'.

Hollywood Hulk Hogan and American Badass Taker are legit reinventions, I'll give you that. But, those are exceptions, not the rule. The fact that those two were multiple years long, and in the attitude era isn't a coincidence, either. Jericho's 'reinventions' never last that long, and never have that long of an impact. Unless you count reddit upvotes for people referencing 'the list' as lasting impact.

That's what he always seemed to me to be. You used to see smarks call him the GOAT back in the day, but it was always a contrarian pick, rather than any real serious take. It wasn't until he joined AEW that suddenly people started pretending he was always in the same tier as Hogan, Rock, Austin etc.

The list gimmick was over everywhere not just reddit, all over social media it's still referenced to this day and back then Jericho would get big pops everytime he was about to put someone on the list kek it was good, he even brought it to AEW when he became champion there since he knew the gimmick was over in WWE so he could get more attention from WWE fans in AEW because of it, he could've easily stuck with that character or just bring it back again and it'd still be just as over, it's probably the most impactful character he's had yet, but even if his other reinventions weren't as impactful, Jericho still is easily one of the best showmen and entertainers of all time, he's got some of the most memorable moments, catchphrases and just presentation in general, the entrance, attire, theme songs and everything, and in his WWE run he used most of that core material till the day he left, so he could still play himself as a character long term if he wanted, but he chooses not to because Y2J loves a challenge babeh, now, would you please, SHUT, THE HELL, UP

Non-meme answer: Jericho was fantastic for a long time, even early into AEW. I still think he could take the book away from Tony (and with the help of some of the old ROH guys Tony hasn) fix alot of the problems, or fit right in back at WWE as an intermediary between HHH and Dwayne. He's physically broken and disgusting these days, but is still an incredible mind for wrestling and a penultimate carny.

i remember hating his new japan run while people like meltzer glazed it. he was a clear step down from the top group there of okada, naito, omega, tanahashi. even a step down with goto, shibata, etc. but he'd take one of their spots in the later matches. it was annoying. he only got worse in AEW, the rock bottom was those 15 minute weekly promos, was it the inner circle or some shit? terrible

Anyone blaming Jerichos downfall on politics alone clearly hasnโ€™t been watching AEW because if you had been watching you would know for yourself personally where Jericho fell off. I donโ€™t think there was a singular moment, but it just depends on the person. I used to like Jericho, and fell off when he came back in WWE with short hair and the traditional trunks. When he popped back up in NJPW I not keen on Jeribloat. His work at the start of AEW was ok. When Jericho decided to get in shape again I thought wow heโ€™s getting his shit together and looks phenomenal. Then I started seeing the quality in repetitive booking. The constant push for that stupid fucking Judas song. Heโ€™ll lose one match to put young talent over and then just derail the time feud with some stupid stable focused story line or just fuck off to the next talent to suck away the charisma like an energy vampire. So somewhere in the middle of Jericho Appreciation Society and his feud with Guevara I just couldnโ€™t take it anymore. Dude went from GOAT to washed real quick.

Jericho's problem isn't that he was never good its that he still thinks he is as good as he was 20-25 years ago which clearly isn't the case. At this point he is just a washed up old self-mark who never took a hint that he should probably just retire or go work in developmental to help train newer/younger wrestlers. He still thinks that he should be a main event wrestler when that is obviously not the case.
