It definitely couldn't have helped. AEW has been notorious for failing to have any follow up ready for people following a big story like the one she and Toni had completed. The fact that all signs were pointing to the division being fed to Mercedes while theirs was still going on couldn't have felt promising for her future booking. Given the timing of her contract it's not hard at all to say she made the right choice. Even if she never goes any farther than being a big dog in the small pond of NXT at least it's a show she'll be featured on weekly. If she stayed in AEW she'd eventually get lost in the mix and maybe get a match on Collision. Look at Megan Bayne. She's already there

It's not like what I'm saying isn't the case. Adam Page had that incredible story arc of becoming champion. Then he finally wins it and it feels like an AEW season finale because that was the end. It didn't seem like there was any long term structured direction to take it. The same goes for Toni and Mariah's story. Revolution felt like another AEW season finale with their story finally coming to an end. Then Toni was just chucked into a paint by numbers feud with Bayne, a re-run with Mina, and has been biding her time waiting for Mercedes to take the title

Typical AEW contracts were for 3 or 4 yeas around that time. That's why everyone was so surprised to find out hers was only for 2 when this all first started rolling out. A 2 year contract is about as entry level as it gets for AEW talent at least after they stopped doing the ones for talent for Dark.
