Lots of people in AEW have 'creative control' over their gimmicks and character. That doesn't mean they get to control their booking and matches. If Mercedes had creative control over that aspect why the fuck would she never force Tony to let her main event shows or get stuck every week doing little to nothing in a backstage promo.

It's crazy. Mercedes wins matches because she's consistently been one of the best women's wrestlers the last 10 years and has been in some of the highest profile women's matches as well.

Fans will give them a performative 'holy shit' chant before the bell rings while they stand there and milk one from them but ultimately this match is nothing more than 'person earns title shot, person gets title shot.' There is no deeper story between them. There is no personal animosity. It's entirely business which makes how obvious the result it is even more disappointing
