I really like the Nashville Municipal Auditorium and the Louisville Gardens. Both of them are great mid-sized venues that still have the comfy feel of a bingo hall.

I've always been amused by events in the Hammerstain Ballroom aka Manhattan Center. Total capacity 1000, easy to disguise the fact that far fewer are there.
