Cutting a promo and having charisma are 90% of what it takes to get massively over

I saw him at Smackdown back in 2003, well after his glory days.
I'm usually calm and collected and not the type to cheer at sporting event but I marked the fuck out when he did his thing in the ring. His in-person charisma is just that off the charts.

That's not true in the slightest and the business sets talent up for failure by teaching that
There's more to working a crowd than talking well into a microphone and having "presence" and the Hulkster was a natural at doing things that people don't even notice because they take it for granted from him

It's like I've told people in the past.
He did five moves. Sure.
But he did the five moves you wanted to see, and he did them right when you wanted to see them most.
There's an art to that that most in the business never quite wrap their heads around.

He was a massive guy that had charisma that looked like a superhero in a time where being patriotic was cool
he said the right thing and had the WWF machine behind him
he had a match style that worked
he wasn't over exposed either
You really only saw him wrestle on PPVs or house shows

I always felt like the "limited number of moves" thing was just a convenient target for people who can't explain why they actually don't like certain wrestlers (which itself is okay)
The same people who complained about Hogan wouldn't have docked points from Terry Funk, Ric Flair, Bret Hart, Mick Foley or Steve Austin (at least pre-neck injury or in 2001) for not doing a wide enough variety of flashy offense and I think it's perfectly fine and understandable just to say "Hogan's gimmick/mannerisms annoy the fuck out of me" instead of pretending it's about workrate

Yeah, you're right. He definitely knew how to work a bussy match and to get people invested.
