It hasn't failed but it has lost a lot of momentum.
People want to jump on that "bad booking" bandwagon but overall the matches and booking is not consistent but not terrible. Heres what the main problems are.
>It isn't a good TV show
WWE has its faults but over the last 20 years they have nailed down how to run a weekly show. No matter how often you watch, its really easy to get back into the rhythm and know what the storylines are. AEW does not do this, if you miss a week it is hard to know what is going on the next week. They also don't have enough replays during matches during exciting moments.
>Not everyone knows how to organically get over
Some wrestlers need a script and coaching for their characters. Others know how to handle it properly. Christian has been doing some of his best work of his career, a lot of others have not. They let too many people with DOA gimmicks go out on shows without having them adjust for a larger audience.
>Tony lacks control over the company
Vince didn't always make the best decisions but at least in that world everyone knew that he had the last word on any decision. Pro wrestling is a weird and crazy place with a lot of big egos, you need someone to lead the pack and keep them all in check. Tony is not that person, he is too much of a fan and not crazy enough for his role.
>Terrible marketing and establishing a brand
I personally never know when the big shows are. It doesn't help when they will have a random dynamite be a special show with a random name to it, or they will randomly have a ppv that they didn't have the previous year. I don't need themed dynamites, I need to know that consistently I am getting specific shows during the same months year to year. Also way too many special announcements over nothing. I don't think that is happening as much but it was terrible when it was happening.
Honorable mention to that terrible game they made.
