This was during the period where AEW could have actually done it. WWE was so God awful at that time.

Oh come on, Jericho was the frontman for the new company. What was he supposed to say.
"Tony made us cut off our dicks. He's gonna make the fans cut off their dicks too. We're absolutely fucked at this point and it's not going to get any better. This kid doesn't know what he's doing and management is a bunch of children. No milly at all in a couple years and that's guaranteed. I'm a fucking joke at this point in my career."
Go easy on the guy.

Yeah in 2005.
People's understanding of television economics in 2025 is basically zero. Because Meltzer still talks about it as if its 2005 and everyone just copies his stupid takes.
For the record, the 25-54 demo in 2025 is probably more important than 18-49. But actually neither are particularly relevant in the conversation any more. P2 is, to an extent

No, it isn't.
The people watching TV now are boomers and people who cannot afford streaming so have no value to advertisers, outside things like sports. Oh and nobody under 25 has a real job any more or any disposable income.
The ad money is skewing to older demos because these are the only people left with money. Have you even seen who is buying ads on television now? Tena For Men. Prestige saloon cars. Health insurance. Streaming services.
Linear TV ad spend is dying. Only 20% of 16-25 even watch 10 minutes+ per week of linear TV at all. Add in VODs and you still only get to 39%. People who want to reach that audience aren't putting money into NBC, they're buying ads on TikTok or streaming like everyone else.

Oh and the reason I say P2 is relevant to an extent is that networks like high P2 ratings because it bumps up the averages that they can boast about. Its not directly a huge thing but it helps.
The truth is, AEWs performance on Max COMPARATIVE TO OTHER SHOWS OF THE SAME BUDGET ON THAT PLATFORM, os much more significant than either of the "demos". Connected TV is where ad money is.
You can see where advertisers want to put their money in pic related. Its from this year's survey. The weekly demos that Meltzer and others autisticly sperg over are classed as audience indexed linear TV.
He literally is talking about a 20th century irrelevant model that is absolutely not how TV works any more.

So in other words, 75% of major advertisers don't even bother looking at "demos" of TV shows when deciding where and what to buy. They literally think shitty local cable is a more important thing.
Meltzer abd others push this demo narrative not because they're uninformed but because they need it for their console warring that they do for money. TV is much more nuanced now than that. Both AEW and WWE are doing well for the networks they're on, by the actual metrics that their networks are judging them on. But Dave and the podcasters cant keep his content mill going with that

Oh you could argue that AEW needs to be a little bit wary with the HBO branding thing. Basically WBD noticed that a massive 25% of their audience exclusively watched HBO content due to its brand quality. Which is why they're not bothering with over priced sports packages now and want to position themselves as the "prestige" streaming platform.
That could be a banana skin once the split happens fully as wrestling isn't considered prestige TV such as The Last of Us. But you could make the same argument that their high P2 makes them attractive to the other side. Even if they had a complete break from WBD which is extremely unlikely, they'd likely be instantly grabbed by a different streaming services who knows that wrestling fans follow wrestling everywhere. Either way, will be interesting to see how the split affects them
