Tag team wrestling is dead because the indies are dead. You used to have guys that would spend years together as a team and build up chemistry, then eventually get signed to a major promotion. Since the indies are dead, there are less opportunities for these tag teams to grow and develop, so the best the major promotions can do is just pick two random guys, team them up, and hope that it works.
