She's the first true homegrown star AEW to jump ship to WWE. It's one thing if Cody goes back, it's one thing to lose Ricky Starks and the Lucha Bros, but Mariah May was huge in AEW, they pushed her to the moon and she was in the most over storyline in the whole company. And if even SHE jumps to WWE the first chance she got, AEW fans know that none of their favorites are off the table.

I think there's a lot to this. Just look at her last appearance in AEW. It wasn't some nothing tv match. It wasn't some side feud she was biding her time on before she left. It was the culmination of a 2 year story that lots consider AEW's best program to date. It was a hell of a match that even Meltzer had to give 5 stars to which was the first time any women's match not in Japan ever scored that from him. The fans at the show gave it a standing ovation. It was ranted and raved about after for a long time. And truthfully? All deservingly so. But then before they can even give Mariah her flowers for it all, the next time she shows up on tv it isn't even for AEW kek
