I used to watch a lot of wrestling back in the day and I kinda want to get back into it. The last few things I really remember are Eddie and Benoit dying, DX vs Spirit Squad, Muhammed Hassan, Chris Masters and Boogieman. Oh and that one pirate guy. I'm not even sure if these happened at the same time, they are just the last things I remember.
From where should I start watching again?

I'm not American, so I don't really get the reference. Like socialist wrestling?

It's a meme shitpost from a retard on twitter. It doesn't actually mean anything other than some autistic faggot on twitter tried to rizz up a celebrity who passing mentioned the thing he liked and embarrassed himself in the process.

WWE has fumbled away most of their audience with poor booking and weird sex scandals (Vince McMahon was outed from the company for sex trafficking employees, plus there's a big time child molestation lawsuit going on against the company right now.) It's just not a good time to be a wwe fan. Raw isn't even on real tv anymore, only streaming.

AEW is the hot new wrestling company that all the younger people are watching, and they're about to have their biggest show of the year next Saturday. You can watch archives of their weekly episodes on MAX to get caught up.

yeah what >>18175769 said. i was just trying to be a dick. my serious rec would be to go check out wwe vault and the official wwe youtube if you want to stay with them, should be able to find lots of clips and summaries. maybe start with the bloodline, that seems to be what everyone liked up until this year
if you want something different, but older, try TNA from its founding years to when Hogan came in, most of that is on youtube and its pretty good. you'll get introduced to a lot of guys who are now in wwe like aj styles.
last you can do what a lot of people did a few years ago and dive into NJPW with the omega/okada matches. id recommend the entire ppv, not just the matches. if those strike your fancy then njpw world is less than $10 a month

That soap opera shit died years ago. The only remains today are some coconut community theater and whatever story they are pushing but it's just sovlless corporate slop.
My best advice would be to just rewatch 2005-2009 RAW, skip the Cena segments except his matches with Edge, Umaga and RVD and just stop watching after the Jericho vs HBK feud. You'll see what is probably the best Y2J version.
And if you're into indies, Age of the Fall vs Briscoes was also pretty interesting.

John Cena is still the WWE champion and he just defended the title against CM Punk. Randy Orton is their other big guy. You literally haven't missed anything.

Does this one have crazy storylines? That's the best thing in wrestling.
>>18175783
It's cool, man.
I might check out the WWE vault, then. Thanks.
>TNA
I remember that. I never actually watched it, since I was a kid and they wouldn't show it in my country, but I know of it. Sting was there, right? And a guy named Samoa Joe. Never seen any of his matches, but I remember him for some reason.

Eddie's heart exploded
Crispan Wah Benoit'd his family
The rise of the IWC as an influencing factor
Meltzerism mainstreaming
Vince being future endeavored
The jews stealing Shane's birthright

Basically just a death of a thousand cuts killed that vibe. The biggest one was Vince being fired. Vince had a mercurial and manic style of booking that is far different than Triple H's plodding systematicness. Then you have TKO who has a heavy thumb on the promotion at all times. That said late stage Vince was really bad. Like 2018 to 2022 was completely unwatchable for me and I ended up dropping WWE until Cody returned. That period of Vince booking was just unwatchable slop and HHH's booking is at least reliable and competent. As for current day WWE, there is still soap-opera shit, it still has weird moments, but the ki is a completely different shade from when King Carny was in charge. And yes, Stardust is one of the best things about modern WWE. His run from his return to his Wrestlemania championship win is great. It really helps that Roman had the belt so long and was so overwhelming with his title run that when Cody finally went over it was cathartic.

Yep, Stinger was there and really good. Kurt Angle who did a lot of his best work in TNA. Joe was great in TNA, did several years in WWE (which if you spot on the archive you should watch) and is still active in AEW i think. TNA also had a lot of ridiculous shit like Dr. Stevie so it might even hit your soap opera bone

Yeah AEW has all the badass blood feuds fueled by crazy storylines. Last year one guy even burned down another guy's house! Along with crazy cage matches and all sorts of stuff. These are like top tier world champions doing this to each other btw. It's definitely got more in common with the attitude era/early 2000s WWF that you remember than modern WWE does today. In WWE it's all slow scripted promos with 45 year olds, ya know, old guys just talking at each other but never actually doing anything, no crazy stories to be had unfortunately. That's why most wrestling fans have made the switch to AEW.

Sorry. This just made me confused. I'm not sure who Stardust or Cody are. I do know Roman by appearance. Nothing else about him, though. Why didn't Vince put Shane in charge?
>>18175827
I might actually go with this and start watching TNA. Any starting recommendations?

>Why didn't Vince put Shane in charge?
Vince though Shane was weak, probably because he sneezed in front of Vince once or something. Stardust is Cody Rhodes, Golddust's younger brother and Dusty Rhode's son. The dude from the Legacy. I spaced that he didn't pick up the Stardust gimmick until after you had stopped watching.

And yeah, can second that recommendation. TNA was really fun at points. Current day TNA is just a skinwalker but late 00s and early 10s TNA was fun. Some of my favorite Scott Steiner stuff was from the late 00s in TNA.

I would recommend checking outside WWE, and I'm not just talking about AEW. Current WWE has none of the appeal that the old shows had, but some other companies are still putting out good content.

It's all about the women's wrestlers today. They're treated with respect now, empowered so much that they show 90% of their ass, and they are put in compelling storylines where two crazy bitches act like crazy bitches to each other.

Wrestling has been in a complete nose dive since 2010. Just watch older wrestling via the network or piracy.

not really. im more of a match guy so i just started with their first ppv and kept watching them in sequential order. the video packages filled in enough for me. since you like the soap opera stuff maybe start with the first Impact episode?
>Why didn't Vince put Shane in charge?
Shane refused to stab Vince in the heart (literally) once and it seems like that was the end of Shane as successor
