MJF is currently seeing success in Hollywood thanks to his role in “The Iron Claw” and upcoming role in “Happy Gilmore 2.” It’s easier for wrestlers to become actors now compared to before and he has called out Hulk Hogan for creating a terrible mold for wrestlers in Hollywood.

While speaking to TV Insider, MJF was asked if it’s easier now for pro wrestlers to be seen as more than just wrestlers when they try to get acting roles. He said it definitely is, thanks to the work that The Rock, Batista, and John Cena have done. He even laughed at himself for forgetting to mention Dwayne Johnson earlier when talking about people who’ve opened doors.

>“It’s easier because of the work that The Rock, Bautista and Cena put in. Also, I feel so stupid now because Dwayne [Johnson] is also on that list I spoke about earlier too.”

Growing up, MJF watched those guys break a mold that he felt Hulk Hogan unfortunately created by being one of the worst actors ever, with movies like “Santa with Muscles” and “Mr. Nanny,” which he called genuine garbage.

>“This was a great question. You might be the only interview that gave me a question I liked. Growing up, you’re watching these guys break this mold that unfortunately Terry Bollea [Hulk Hogan] created by being one of the worst actors of all-time with Santa with Muscles, Mr. Nanny, and all that genuine garbage.”

At the end of the day, MJF is just glad that the likes of The Rock, John Cena and Batista helped pave the way for wrestlers to become proper actors. After all, he made it clear he blames Hulk Hogan for ruining that for wrestlers in the past and it’s unlikely his opinion will change anytime soon.

Out of all the attempts that I've seen from wrestlers to shit on Hogan in an indirect roundabout way just for not personally liking him, that has to be the worst
This motherfucker is really acting like Hogan's the only wrestler who's done shitty movies, and who wasn't a great actor in them
Hogan is one of the earliest reasons why Hollywood decided to give wrestlers a chance at all to appear in major films, regardless of acting ability or the quality of the movie
I would have respected him more if he just rightfully cited Hogan as being one of the ones who opened that door, then just made it clear that he personally doesn't like Hogan but acknowledges what Hogan achieved

Feels like whenever Cena or Bautista are the star of the movie instead of being part of an ensemble, the movie bombs. The Hulkster didn't have the luxury of being shielded by capeshit IPs and CGI.

Unironically liked Hogan in Rocky and Three Ninjas.
This is bullshit anyway, though. It's like saying NBA stars are struggling in Hollywood because Shaq was in shitty movies. Truthfully, Shaq and Hogan only got opportunities in the first place because they were massively over, and Hollywood will try anything if they're convinced it'll sell.

Piper was great in They Live. Carpenter shot the whole thing around the fact Piper couldn’t really act and it did come across great because his character is such an outsider. Don’t forget Jesse Venture had an S tier minor role in Predator and was perfectly serviceable in The Running Man. Hogan was also great in Rocky III even if he was just playing a wrestler.
Contrast that with MJF who played the kayfabe Von Erich and his next “big” role is one of 4 sons of Happy Gilmore who will have maybe 3 minutes of screen time.

Yeah if you squint you can see the logic at work. How do you convey that this guy is out of step with all the normies who are brainwashed? You just get a guy who can’t act and surround him with regular punch clock actors. He immediately seems off. I’m sure it’s on YouTube, there’s a documentary where he talks about casting him. When they talk together on the commentary he says stuff like he didn’t want someone “too polished” That’s sort of the nice way of putting it. When he’s not standing right next to Piper he just says “can’t act”. Carpenter is a sharp fucking guy, also a wrestling fan.

With movies more than with wrestling, the truth is that it's a multi-man mission.
Hogan's acting may have been shit.
Hogan's acting may have been atrocious.
It may even have been cured suicide for little children at Make-A-Wish, "nurse I wanna kill myself" "ok Timmy here's Hulk Hogan in a tutu" "lol my condition's not that bad after all".
Every single shitshow Hulk Hogan put on the silver screen, had a director and a team of stooges who wanted him there, who wanted him to perform that way, who scripted it that way, and approved everything he did.

MJF shits on Hogan here but he knows it too, nothing that Hogan did in those movies was something that he came up with, storyboarded or approved.
Directors and producers okayed it. They liked it.
Just like how the director and his team liked what MJF did in the Iron Claw, a job done so well they cut half his work and the rest was forgettable. The whole movie was, for all its inaccuracies.

Batista isn’t bad as Drax in the Marvel movies. The character in the comics was a dull space Hulk and eventually edgy mid 00’s space hulk with tats. For better or worse he reinvented the character and the concept of big strong alien who can’t understand the nuances of language is fine for capeshit. He was imposing enough as the Bond henchmen ala Oddjob or Jaws if missing some personality but that’s more to do with the tone of the movies. He did a perfectly good Andrew Tate impersonation in that Knives Out sequel. He’s unironically the best wrestler turned actor. Cena is situationally good, I didn’t watch the Farrelly brothers movie he did but he really was good as Peacemaker. It’s a dimeless nothingburger character and he tried to give it some soul, not sure he can do much else besides different versions of that, a sort of big dumb screw up which I think he played in Farelly bro’s one.

Andre and Piper both had classic performances but they were 100 percent crafted around them and they succeeded without them needing to actually act.

Cena and Batista basically reinvented Peacemaker and Drax. No one gave a shit about Peacemaker before joj and Drax was a C/D lister before Batista put him in the spotlight. Batista did fine as Rabban. Honestly ive heard nothing but good about Batista's other roles.
Rock was fine in The Rundown, and is good as Maui.

The Rundown is the sort of the thing he should be in. B action comedy movies by serviceable directors. He’s not any better in it than anything else he usually shits out it’s just he hadn’t become a box office draw yet. Wasn’t overexposed, weren’t used to all his worst tendencies and hadn’t had the success that made him think he’s the biggest action star in the world.

His real best role is that weird Southland Tales where they gave the Donnie Darko writer/director like 50 million to make some insane rambling near future apocalypse vision. He did a similar trick to what Carpenter to with Piper. He had him playing what amounts to be a version of himself to make up for his inability to act. The character was a roided up action star who can’t act that had weirdly ended up with strong political connections. Through various mishaps he can’t remember all the details of his life and gets used as a pawn by various nefarious players in the end of days Venice Beach California. People said the movie was unwatchable but for all the people that say we’re living in Idiocracy and that was this underrated comic gem, or that Demolition Man had some weird prescience, life looks much closer to Southland Tales than any near future movie I can remember. It’s kinda fart sniffy and up its own butt and you have to read a graphic novel prequel to really get what the actual story is but he really did capture the feel of what 20 years in the future would look like.
